Tuenti was one of the most extended social networks in Spain and is owned by Telefónica, the Spanish broadband and telecommunications provider. Also referred to as the Spanish Facebook, Tuenti was especially focused on young people. Tuenti has gone from being a social network aimed at a young audience, to becoming a virtual mobile operator (OMV)
The main challenge was to bring the existing experience offered in the main mobile platforms to a Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 application. The design guidelines and structure available for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 differed from the already existing applications however the usability and philosophy conveyed in the latter had to be maintained.
Plain Concepts has developed this application for tablets by using a modern design which follows the guidelines set by Microsoft for its mobile and tablet platforms. The application was implemented with HTML 5 and WinJS (Microsoft set of libraries for developing Windows 8 apps), and all of the advantageous features that the platform offers were developed.
Among these features you can find the PUSH notifications that allow users to stay informed about the latest updates on their Tuenti profiles, even if the application is closed. Another useful feature that was implemented is the Live Tiles one through which you can read information about the latest social network activities and posts, directly from the icon (tile) of the application. On top of this we worked on the responsiveness of the application to allow users to use multiple applications at the same time on their tablet. Finally, the application is compliant with the standards of real time communication thanks to services distributed through the cloud, especially for the chat.
